it is a very sad day. I know she was in failing health for quite a while and her mental state was very bad, but this is still sad news. she brought a lot of joy to millions of fans around the world. RIP
Her importance to a generation of children and young adults can't be overestimated. To see someone like themselves on the bridge of that ship on a nationally broadcast TV series spoke volumes about the potential to climb out of the morass of bigotry and ignorance. Unfortunately, we still have a long way to go. But without people like her, we wouldn't even be where we are now.
She was always very gracious to fans at the many conventions she attended over the decades. I never heard any of her castmates say anything other than great things about her. Her MLK story is one for the ages, and if you haven't heard it, it's worth the quick Youtube search.
