What we have are two individuals who must prove their way in life:
Naru a Comanche girl who wants to rewrite her life by becoming a hunter instead of a gather like the rest of the females or the medicine woman her mother become. She trains on her own at an early life when she can away from her tribe. From what can be seen she has become a great tracker, and formable fighter and due to her training for medicine she has learned that forest. She just hasn't been allowed to hunt.
The Predator is killer from another planet who has spent his life training to become a hunter. It seems like this is his first hunt on Earth leading to the fact that he is unfamiliar with the beast or his surroundings.
