    Barbie Rewind retro 80s dolls.

Barbie rewind is a new series of three retro dolls which homage the 80s Superstar era. The dolls in the series are Career Girl, Workin' Out and Night Out. They retail for $39.99. I picked up Career Girl because she has the iconic Superstar face or a really nice copy of it.

I've long felt there should be a $29.99 to $39.99 midpoint between the budget play line and the extremely expensive Silkstone collector dolls. Something for the collector who just wants Barbie to have the quality, looks and detail of the 80s play line dolls.

These are a good start, but they are not quite there. She has the click joint legs but not the era correct body. This is a 2016 body mold that doesn't have the proportions or twist waist of the Superstar era dolls. The clothing quality is night and day above the cheap printed modern play line clothes. But not quite 80s play line. It's still really nice with a real collar on the jacket and little fake buttons. She comes with a nice amount of accessories including a large 80s phone and a cassette tape stand. The box is pretty clever as well. It's designed to look like a giant VHS tape package. The back of the inner box is even printed to look like a VHS tape.

I hope Mattel continues and improves this series with the correct era body. Just judging by the popularity of the previous two Superstar era reissues, Day to Night and Totally Hair, I think there is obviously a market for collectors who wants a good quality nice looking Barbie like they used to make.

Edit: I forgot to mention the hair is very nice quality but crazy gelled. The curls are pretty stiff.

You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

My appreciation of Barbie probably stopped at Sport 'n' Shave Ken, but I give Mattel credit for its homage editions of classic Barbie dolls. It seems from your review, though, that earlier reissues were more accurate?

Regardless, Matty has certainly treated its Barbie and MOTU fans better than Hasbro has treated its 12-inch GI Joe collectors.

The Barbie Rewind dolls are brand new designs that homage the iconic 80s dolls. Career Girl homages Day to Night Barbie. Mattel has done a few actual reissues from the Superstar era but nothing like the 60s era dolls got. There were a few in the My Favorite Barbie line (the Peaches N Cream Barbie reissue has really gone up in price) and a few recent ones like Day to Night and Totally hair. They did use, more or less, the correct bodies. So, Mattel does have the molds no reason not to use them.

One of my favorite doll influencers/reviewers on youtube did a review of them a few months ago.
