    Spam: do you eat it?

Growing up in the 70's and below middle class we would eat spam/treat more than I thought. It was a go to when we would eat salad. Then nothing for decades. Now that I live with a (very young) Asian boyfriend, I have discovered that Spam is now back on the grocery list (along with hotdogs). BF told me that in his family spam & hotdogs where their "red" meat. So I have not gotten used to eating this salty "ham" but refused to buy the big can. We get the single slices. Take tonight's dinner:

Starting off with the Loma Linda Brand Hawaiian plant-based rice bowl with Spam slice pineapple ring sauteed with spray on coconut oil & orange pepper. With Gugen coconut milk pineapple flavor to drink.

We usually have a can or two on the shelf but the only way I eat it is fried with eggs and toast.

Land sakes, 'Ep! That's fancy! We thought we were high society by grilling slices in BBQ sauce and slapping it on a steamed bun with lettuce and a thin crispy cornbread patty!

For the record, we were a Treat household well into the nineties. Repeated Monty Python viewings made us "Spam-curious", and we ended up switching. You're right though, it is salty, more so than Treat was. It's just an occasional comfort food now.

I was a trained cook in the Navy who even cooked for the officers & captain so I still go a little extra. All I know is there are NO leftovers in my house.

Growing up we would go back & forth with Spam/Treat, usually what had a coupon or cheaper that week. Now because Wal-Mart sells the single slices, I go with that. Yeah its not cheaper but we do not waste as much either.

I do, but I usually buy the low-salt variety.

I’m not on a low-salt diet or anything, I just find the regular version to be crazy too salty!!

If they make low salt for the single slice packets, my grocery store doesn't carry it, just the regular.

As to the question of this post, yes, I eat SPAM-I usually make sandwiches out of it.

I prefer Treet, I should tray a low-salt variety. I like it for breakfast with eggs, too.

As a Sailor with sea time, I have to say "thanks!". We always had good food and I looked forward to meals onboard ship.

I occasionally have SPAM. Always fried either on a sandwich with mustard, pickles, and onions or with eggs and toast. Just had some SPAM Musubi for the first time a couple of weeks ago and it was fantastic.

                      Love Spam, best omelet EVER.

                      Fry up some onions

Add 1 half inch cubed spam (I usually do the whole can)

                      A few tablespoons of salsa

                      Shredded Jack cheese

                      6 eggs (yes 6 )

                      enjoy

I didn't eat much of it for years, but working from home during the pandemic, we picked up some, and have had it several times. I like it fried on a sandwich with Miracle Whip myself, just like my Mom used to make.

I've never tried it, but I love ham, so I'm sure I'll like it.

Haven't had it in awhile but yeah,I've had it. Usually have it with a couple fried eggs. Have it sit on top of the eggs, then break the yolk.

I love it! Spam sandwiches about once a month...grilled with a thick slice of melted Swiss cheese. The sweet, nutty Swiss balances out the salty meat perfectly.
