    Wal-Mart Car Models

Stopped by my local Wal-mart this morning and I was shocked!! They had this beautiful display of car models that if they would have showed up during Covid lockdown they would have sold out in one day:

I saw a batch of those at my local a couple of weeks ago. Was really thinking of picking up a Pontiac GTO.
Cool to see these in the store. I noticed at xmastime that there was an endcap with Trek and CocaCola related models, but I thought that was a holiday one-off.
It would be great to see a return of the model kit in big box stores.

Back in the fall several Walmarts in the area got a huge endcap/display of model kits. Cars (including the 1989 Batmobile with figure), Star Trek ships, and even the reissued and rebranded Pirates of the Caribbean kits. I picked up a pirate model for my daughter and I to eventually build. It's great to see these back at retail at affordable prices.

Our Walmart had these a long while back. I took pics of some on the shelves of our local Walmart for a model collector friend of mine back in late summer/early fall, and for the Christmas season they had a big standalone standee with them on it in the aisle in front of the toy department. there were a lot of pop culture cars-(Batman '89 Batmobile, a few James Bond cars, the Ghostbusters Wagon, number of Star Trek ships, as well as the Mach 5 and Christine modles mentioned above.

              That's really cool.
You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

I saw some of these show up at a couple of Walmarts last year. I picked up the 3 Wacky Races and the Mach 5. I see a few on this display I didn't see last time....have to keep an eye out!

Are these snap on pieces or do they require model liquid glue?

I haven't seen these at my area Walmarts. I'd get some of these!

The ones I was looking at were glue together model kits. There may have been some snap togethers in there, tho.

Those car models are so cool.

I really like the style of the boxes from that time.

I was in my local Walmart this weekend and all of the Star Trek models they had left were marked down to $6. That’s a significant markdown.

I went back to pick up the GTO model and these had already been marked for clearance at my local WM. At that point about half the stock had sold. Most of them were marked to 10-15$
I checked back in about a week later and they were all gone. Looked like the toy section was getting ready for a reset as well. I hope this does not mean my WM will not carry model kits in the future.

My store sold out before they had a chance to on clearance. Thats a lot of models gone within just a few weeks. I thinking people were stocking up for something to do down the road.
