    Mattel The Archies

I have zero recollection of these Mattel The Archies dolls from the late 1970s, a couple of years after Marx had done a series of Archie action figures. It’s curious that Mattel snubbed Bettie Cooper in favour of Sabrina (Maybe the Filmation cartoon show had something to do with that). I’ve also been surprised that […]

I never got into the Archies. I do vaguely remember seeing those in a Christmas wish book as a kid.
You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

I think Marx did the line better, especially when it comes to the car. The Mattel car looks like it should belong with the Mego Little Rascals line, like something they would have built.

Not a fan of the clothed soft, stuffed bodies.

In the 90s I remember Betty and Veronica released as fashion dolls as well.

I remember these sitting around for years at KBs.

I don't remember any Archie dolls in the 70s and probably would not have been able to get them anyway.

But I am always hopeful for Archie merchandise. I picked up some bobbleheads of Archie and Jughead some years back and I have the Funko Pops! too. I could not pull the trigger on any of the Super 7 Archie figures though; those are just too expensive for me. I would love to see them get the Mego treatment, but I can't see them being a big seller.

The Marx car is gorgeous. This one...wow...it barely registers the idea of "car".

There are not a lot of these on ebay and Archie's car does not show up. I do like the mini comic book on the back.

And to compare these are better. I have that car and have used it in a few Svengoole set ups.
