    SyFy Chucky

    Chucky banner.jpg

After a vintage Chucky doll turns up at a suburban yard sale, an idyllic American town is thrown into chaos as a series of horrifying murders begin to expose the town's hypocrisies and secrets.

Now I normally do not watch "slasher porn" movies anymore. Having spent way too much time in hospitals and have chest full of scars, I have decided to stop watching them. SyFy Chucky tv series brought me back because the main (human) cast is gay and the most shocking is they cast real teenage actors as high school students This is only 10 episodes in season one. After watching episode 1 & 2 my boyfriend now wants a Mego (nonscarred) Chucky and Jack Wheeler.

I have only watched the first episode thus far. I plan on watching the second episode soon.

I have a fondness for Chucky because Don Mancini has controlled the entire franchise (outside of that "remake" a few years back that came out the same time as the latest real Chucky movie) and outside of Seed which is just awful in every way, the stories have been surprisingly strong, the casts largely consistent and the idea that this is all the same storyline after decades is pretty impressive in the era when most people just reboot every few years.

The doll work and Brad Dourif was fantastic as usual. I like the lead character, but overall in the first episode the acting felt pretty weak to me. I like the premise, so I'm going to continue on, but it felt a bit like a cable TV show from the 90s and less so a 2020 cable TV show... If that makes sense. Like the quality of acting just wasn't up to par. Hopefully that improves with Tilly and others showing up.

The FX were great though, so at least there is some budget there.

To your point though Monitor, one thing that actually kinda took me out of things is although they have cast teenagers... and it FEELS like they're high school students... They're supposed to be in Middle School... Which was kinda odd considering they all act like high school students. They're supposed to be 8th graders, but they don't look and act like it. If they had been Freshmen in HS, I think that would have played to me a bit better because that's what they feel like. Even though 8th graders are more mature, a lot changes between 8th and 9th grade, in terms of how kids act.

Anywho, I think if you have a passing interest in Chucky, the show is probably worth checking out.

For some reason I thought they were in High School, still I meet my first boyfriend in the 8th grade and we went way beyond the kissing stage (and this was in the 80's). As far as partying went yeah we had party's but not nowhere that big.

Finally Jake and Devon have become boyfriends. Oh and this episode confirms that the show takes place just weeks after the events of Cult of Chucky, placing the action in October/November of 2017.

I think they waited a few too many episodes to reveal that this was so shortly after Cult of Chucky. They've spent so long in this universe, I almost thought they were just retconning some of that stuff from the last films. While I'm glad they're not, they really needed to explain a bit more for newer audiences I think.

The show feels a little too focused on the love story subplot and the cancer thing this week just seemed oddly shoved in there. I can't be the only one who thought her secret would be something more salacious.

All in all, still enjoyable and I think subsequent episodes have gotten to where they feel less "cheap" than I thought the first few did. And cheap being relative, it's never felt low budget, but early on as I mentioned it seemed like an older cable show than a more modern one in terms of how involved things were. But it's starting to feel more like a modern show.

It's a fun horror series that doesn't take itself too seriously.

Well the season ended last night and we are getting a season 2 next year so this series is going to get wilder. What is going to be interesting is what is going to happen to the heroes since there parents are dead.
