Shatner launching to space - Live coverage

Not sure if everyone is aware, but Bill Shatner takes his ride into space in less than a hour. They have live coverage here. There is a hold at 45:01 but the countdown should start back shortly. Pretty surreal. Life imitating art.

I didn't expect them to come back so soon.

I felt like we just shook hands with Buck Rogers after I observed that booster rocket fall out of the sky, fire it's engines, BALANCE ITSELF, and land safely. ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE!

What a waste of time and money. Bezos looks like such a jerk. Nearly knocking Shatner over to make sure he's center of the spotlight. Good grief. Tax this idiot already.

Shatner's reaction is quite profound. What an amazing experience.

You can tell Shatner really felt something about the human existence. Everyone else comes off as a jackass.

A good friend of mine just summed it up well. William Shatner just did more for the space program in the past hour than anyone has done in recent history.

It's a shame Bezos almost killed him trying to knock him over to spray champagne on a bunch of vapid twits.

                  LOVE William Shatner !!!

Everything about him is BIGGER THAN REAL LIFE !!!

Was a little concerned because of his age

Glad to hear everything went fine

William Shatner was on an episode of Expedition Unknown over the summer, he and Josh Gates went to I think it was Australia to go under water and feed huge sharks. Well he did it, and that was on his bucket list, he was terrified of sharks.

I think he also said, going into space was another one of his bucket list to do, so now he’s done that.

At his age of 90, that’s just amazing.

Amazing 90 year old. He has a little belly, yet still outliving much thinner people. He’s lucid and sharp as heck. And man, plastic surgery or not, he looks great. Awesome to see Captain Kirk reach for the stars in both fiction and now real life.

Not having followed this story too closely, I have to ask: Did Shatner pay for the experience out of his own pocket, or did they give him the opportunity for free, sort as a gesture of goodwill/PR stunt?

Not 100% sure of the particulars, but they’ve been taking a couple of people along with their “paying customers” and I believe he was part of that. In short, yes it was a PR stunt.

Figured it was Space Tourism PR but in his place I wouldn't have turned it down. Good for him!
