Star Wars Issue #38 was one of my favourite comics Marvel ever did, I treasured it, kept it mint sealed when I was ten. I was thinking about this comic the other day and tried to figure out why. It's just a filler story.
I think the first thing is the Michael Golden art. I was a big fan of the Micronauts comics and love his style here. I always felt that Carmine Infantino was not putting his heart into the book, so Golden's take was so refreshing.
But the other, more important thing is, this is the last Star Wars comic, after this, came Empire Strikes back and it would expand the Universe and change it forever.
This little story is the last adventure of farmboy Luke and white gown Leia. The mythos would change, the whole "wild west" era would be no more.
Don't get me wrong, I don't hate Empire or anything, it's great but that era in between Star Wars and Empire had a certain magic to it. An uncertainness about it and this single issue encapsulate that for me perfectly.
