He won 7 Emmy Awards. He was just brilliant as Lou Grant. He was great in "Mary Tyler Moore" as well. I even enjoyed him in "Cobra Kai!" Everything he did was fantastic. Even though he was 91, it seemed like he lived a lot longer than that. Much like Carl Reiner, he left a few lifetimes worth of memories!

I admired his talent and personal efforts, too. His voice work was a treat in later years.

Of course he will be best remembered as Lou Grant, but he made a great Santa Claus in "Elf". His vocal performance of Carl in Pixar's "Up" was wonderful, and I LOVED the out-of-the-box casting of him as Granny Goodness on Superman and Justice League Unlimited.

              RIP.

Never liked or watched the Mary Tyler Moore show but used to love the Lou Grant show

                Was sad when it ended

BTW, Asner used to play a hell of a bad guy too in the 60's

He was also in the original Hawaii Five-O, and the new remake version with Alex O’Laughlin a few years back.

Don't forget him doing the voice of Hudson on Gargoyles.

I remember the first time I heard Granny speak, I thought "Is that Ed Asner?!?! I love it!"

A few weeks I go started watching the Mary Tyler Moore Show on Hulu. He gives such a great, defining "lovable grump" performance. I watched an episode of the Lou Grant Show and it's a different performance. Of course, a drama would call for that, but the character seemed to only share the name and actor.
                      WANTED - Solid-Boxed WGSH's, C.8 or better.

Jeez, I loved Granny, too. Iconic, now. Enjoyed him in Freakazoid as well.

Have to wonder who was the better J.Jonah Jameson? Asner or J K Simmons?

^Geez, I somehow forgot he was JJJ too!

The new "Dug Days" shorts are on Disney Plus, and they are really fun. Probably some of Asner's last work, reprising his role as Carl from UP.
