Good News for Dr Who Fans

I'm sure this will be greeted with some cheers...

Doctor Who’s Jodie Whittaker and Chris Chibnall to Exit in 2022

The BBC has announced that both current Doctor Jodie Whittaker, as well as showrunner Chris Chibnall, will depart Doctor Who in 2022. The duo will, after the upcoming season 13, will say farewell with 3 special episodes to air throughout next year.

While I felt Whittaker was unfairly attacked-- often because people felt the Doctor should not be female-- her run never quite worked for me. It showed some promise that I felt never materialized. And I feel that Chibnall was the main reason it didn't work. You can only do so much with poor material.

I think it would be good news if they were gone already. They made Doctor Who suck really bad, and it probably will never recover.

I think the Doctor, and many other icons of pop culture we treasure here, are resilient to varied interpretation.
WANTED: Dick Grayson SI trousers; gray AJ Mustang horse; vintage RC Batman (Bruce Wayne) head; minty Wolfman tights; mint Black Knight sword; minty Launcelot boots; Lion Rock (pale) Dracula & Mummy heads; Lion Rock Franky squared boots; Wayne Foundation blue furniture; Flash Gordon/Ming (10") unbroken holsters; CHiPs gloved arms; POTA T2 tan body; CTVT/vintage Friar Tuck robes, BBP TZ Burgess Meredith glasses.

Agreed, if any series is adaptive to change, it's Doctor Who.

Not really good news, They might bring in an even more insipid creep to ruin the show.

I still clearly remember when (in 1996-ish) I HATED the "FOX" version of Doctor Who on its release.

Doctor Who, half human ??? … etc.

Only thing that made it watchable was the cameo by Will Sasso ---(IMO, greatest fat-guy comedian since Jackie Gleason)

I liked Jodie as the Doctor, but a lot of the material she had to work with...not so much. I felt the same for Peter Capaldi, he was so good, but a lot of the episodes were soooo bad.

And Chris Chibnall certainly didn't endear himself to long time DW fans by arbitrarily subverting more than 50 years of established canon.

Was never a fan of Peter Capaldi as Dr Who

Maybe because of his Children of Earth stint but I just don't like him --- never did.

IMO, booting Matt Smith killed the DW franchise …

                      And yes, Smith was booted

Smith was the worst, series never recovered after his dreadful run, but Capaldi was quite good overall.

What I've seen of Jodie was fine, Graham was the real star though.

Pretty much what the article Screen Rant has about the news said. They blame Chibnall more than they blame Whittaker. If a female Doctor was the problem, there wouldn't be so many rumors of them casting another one.

I am not sure how I feel about this. I enjoyed RTD's tenure and the modern take is thanks to him but on the same token, it seems strange to bring him back to the fold like this. Hopefully he brings his eraser
