    Badass Ben - Benjamin Franklin

The Heroes of the American Revolution doll series was not previously on my radar. It seems they made efforts to be historically accurate with a lot of the clothing. George Washington’s outfit is a good match for the original in the Smithsonian and I was surprised that it is also true for Ben Franklin’s clothing. Can’t beat the price on some of them too, Ben was only about ten bucks shipped.

The head construction is compatible with a modern Mego body. I carried over the clothing sans shirt and vest but he was still looked like he was missing something. An LJN SWAT belt buckle and a new strip of vinyl really ties the whole thing together. An old chromed cocktail sword was a good match for Ben’s actual sterling silver ceremonial sword.

I’m thinking of doing more and calling them the Fighting Founding Fathers. Hope you enjoy.

I have the whole set and used them in my Svengoolie Wax Musuem. The heads of great looking, while some of there clothes are a little thin.

I like your version of Franklin, instead of using the fat body you gave him abs.

      Nice, I’ll look for yours.

Franklin’s weight in the head sculpt lends itself to compatibility here. He still appears to have a properly proportioned neck and the flesh tones are a good match. I did use a small band of rubber on the narrow part of the modern neck peg for a proper fit.

He slays his enemies, “A penny saved, is not enough!”

Hoping to add a Leyland jar and key as an accessory if I can find something the right size.

As a History Teacher I wish that I would have thought of this custom. I like the idea of your "Founding Fathers" series. Very cool. Nice job.

Thanks and glad you like him. It is an easy custom, go for it.

Maybe I’ll do George next with his trademark axe. Put them back to back. “I cannot tell a lie. I’ll cut you down like a cherry tree.”

This is a neat idea, like how you put it together, looking forward to seeing more down the road.

He was also a non-stop ladies man. You should have him fencing while romancing the comely wife of some foreign head of state
Warm up?! We may as well sit around this cigarette!

Ben is buried down the street from me.
                      Nice custom.
If a Mego figure of God did not exist, it would be necessary for EMCE to invent him.

ClassicTVToys recently started selling the head sculpts and outfits for various presidents, if you happen to need them. I remember seeing someone made a Headless Horseman out of the black Washington outfit. There's also the Presidential Monsters series, but those are hard to find.

I love the series and I too have the whole set, loose and boxed. Absolutely love them. Use to get them at a drugstore in Gatlinburg when we took vacations down there in the early 70's.
