Can anyone recomend a decent modern haunted house/scary movie ?

Love haunted house/scary movies but most/all modern ones are cr_p to me.

Psychological horror is fine but would like to see some genuine supernatural content.

Lately been leaning toward foreign pictures (non USA/Canada) but hate to read subtitles --- would rather see English dubbed.

Example of stuff I like …..

    THE VVITCH

    The Babadook

    The Conjuring 1

The Enfield Poltergeist (2015) --- NOT The Conjuring Part-2

    Any recommendations ?

Just letting you know, if it's common in the USA, I most likely seen it already

Winchester is a modern haunted house movie I recently watched. I sat through it, and it held my interest, but I can't say I was really scared. Haunted House movies usually don't scare me. I'm more frightened by slasher type horror movies--but not torture movies! I especially love 1970s Italian Giallo movies.

      I enjoyed The Babadook.

Crimson Peak, too--though a lot of folks didn't.

To me ,modern horror movies don't scare me, i wouldn't watch them as I'm not a horror fan.(i think it's the CGI effects used now i find non scary) But the 70s with Amityville horror, exorcist, omen, Texas chainsaw there's some scary scary flicks!

Crimson Peak is an excellent throwback haunted house movie. Major Hammer vibes.

Back in the day, The Amityville Horror's red eyes at the window was one of the most scariest things EVER in a movie.

Unfortunately today, the effect is kinda laughable.

At the end when the giant evil pig is seen hovering in the windows I can't help but think of Pink Floyds concert's touring pigs from that time

Might have to check that out just because Bobby Singer from Supernatural is in it

Crimson Peak the one with Tom Hiddletston? that was pretty good.

I watched Winchester too, it was stupid, I only watched it because i had been to the Winchester mansion in California that the movie is based on

Have you watched the Haunting of Hill House on Netflix series? I enjoyed it, had it's moments for sure. I liked it better than the newer Bly Manor series.

Spaniards make great haunting house type horror movies.

I highly recommend two of them. THE DEVIL'S BACKBONE (el Espinazo del Diablo) and The Orphanage. REC is another good. one.

Koreans also make creepy spooky stuff. One of the best one ever is The Wailing. It’s one of the best horror films ever made. If you want creepy haunting scary, this is the movie for you.

to this growing list of excellent suggestions I would add the 2003 "a tale of two sisters" and "session 9"

I also enjoyed "babadook" "witch" "devil's backbone" "rec" "hill house"

Let’s not forget Japanese flicks too. The Ring and The Grudge.

Heck, those are so popular in Japan that they released a Jason vs Freddy type crossover movie, combining The Ring vs The Grudge characters called, Sadako vs. Kayako…

It's almost 10 years old now, but The Woman in Black is genuinely frightening, and very well made. Great story too. And it's actually a production of the revived Hammer Studios, so that's another notch in its belt. It fits in.
