Yeah and even the B&W photos from the original show that while the lighter part is lighter, it's also clearly pretty dark. Just a bit lighter than the dark parts.

Sculpt looks great in those proto unpainted shots.

I really like the Larry Talbot head. But, yes paints are off on the Wolfman head.

I agree that the sculpts look good, it’s the paint job that’s off. If your gonna spend the money, you want to be satisfied with the product.

I don't care if the face is a couple shades too light. It's still the best Chaney Wolf Man sculpt EVER and light years ahead of that orange haired Mego abomination.

I've NEVER understood why the licensing branch of Universal insists on this color guide that distorts the appearance of its Wolfman product. Its such an odd restriction that makes little sense. Maybe they feel like they need a special color to protect their legal standing if a copyright dispute comes up? The only problem there is why would anyone willingly choose that color face if they tried to go around Universal? Oh well... Add him to that endless list of figures I buy and repaint. As long as the sculpt is there, these are easy fixes. And I agree with Dwayne. This is a killer sculpt. Most likely the best I've ever seen on any product.

For a product with this level of sculpting quality, and at this price point (around $30) I'm willing to buy it and repaint parts of the face to "fix it" if the final product looks like the preview pics.

Same here. I can't for the life of me figure out where the idea for an orange haired Wolfman came from. Larry Talbot (Chaney) doesn't have orange hair, and neither do wolves, so why would the Wolfman be that color? Makes NO sense.
If anything, he should be gray, and in fact, that's my preferred color scheme and the one I've been using on model kits and art for some time. And it looks so much better than even brown.
It looks like that's how he always should have been...it just seems right. Judge for yourself.

^Yeah, that looks great! I like the gray, and it certainly makes more sense for a WOLF man. But Chaney's makeup and fur was pretty much brown (to match his natural hair color, maybe?) from what we've seen, so I'm good with that. But I just don't get the overly pale face, and for the first time ever, this porn stache. But the sculpt is fantastic.

Yep and that's the way the I like it too look. For me, with Universal, realism goes right out the window. Universal had a style and look all its own.
You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

The only reason Chaney's fur was brown was because that was the color of the yak hair used on his face. The reddish brown makeup was used for the way it looked on black and white film, not because that was the intended color. However, much like Frankenstein's green coloring, Universal's poster artists took liberties and were tasked with making colorful posters. In the Lon Chaney Mummy films, the posters and lobby cards depict Kharis as being green and even BLUE in some cases!

^Yeah, that's true. My son and I painted our reissue of the Aurora Mummy with a green face for that very reason.

I wouldn't want a George Reeves Superman figure in his gray and brown suit (well, I WOULD, but only as a variant), but the brown has just become part of the equation, so I don't mind his fur being brown. But I want his face to at last be a very deep tan, myself.

While I don't work for Mego, I can relate my experience of having to double license for one item has led to double the guarantee and royalty, killing profitability. Perhaps Mego ran into a similar, if not same, issue.

NECA has fixed the Wolf Man! They have shaved Larry's porn stache!

I saw this over at the Universal Monster Army board. I saw the B&W version last week, and there was no mustache, and was hoping they'd fixed the color version. And they have! They also darkened up the skin on his face as well. Thanks for listening, NECA!

Would kill for a Mego Larry Talbot like this.
