    Great article Chris! Superman II remains one of my favorites in the series, but I remember all too well how anemic promotional merch was for this film back in those days. The industry had already made its initial run of superheroes with Mego, but the movie industry was still deeply entrenched with people from another generation who just didn't believe in this genre. Networks like CBS were even cancelling well rated superhero shows on television because they didn't want to be known as the "superhero network". There was still very much a stigma on our beloved heroes back then that would take decades of success before anyone started to seriously believe in them. Honestly I think it took the old horses dying out and new blood coming in to really turn that corner. Otherwise heroes like Spider-man would still be fighting the same thugs that were interchanged between Mannix, SWAT, or Starsky & Hutch.
