1979 Beno’s Toy Catalog- Kenner Star Wars- Star Bird

I had never heard of this California-based chain of Toy Stores called “Beno’s” before but judging by this glorious catalog, they offered the best-selling toys of 1979 including of course, the Kenner Star Wars line, this beautiful time capsule is a joy to behold. Oh my God, you did it again! I had completely forgotten about Skedoodle! I played with that thing constantly! Essentially a round Etch-A-Sketch with templates to make patterns.

I think I need to pay you for repressed memory therapy or something.

The thrill of victory and the agony of defeat has never been captured better.

You are transparent; I see many things... I see plans within plans.

        I had Merlin.
You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

There is a very nice selection of space toys in that catalog.

            Tinker Toys !!!!!!!!

            Loved them !!!

Anybody else used to bite and suck on the round disc wooden connector spools 'cause they resembled some sort of biscuit/Oreo cookie ?

Hope their paints didn't have a lot of lead - no BS

Such nostalgia looking through those pages.

(Cool to see the Kenner Droid Factory hidden away in the "Activity Toys" section!)

I had a few of those items, such as Merlin, the Sonic Fazer, Lite Brite, a few of the board games, etc.

And I recall playing with some of the other stuff at friends' houses, like the Fisher Price Movie Viewer, Criss Cross Crash, Perfection, Wonderful Waterfuls, etc.
              PUNY HUMANS!

Yeah, I'll echo some dear and diverse old friends there.

I think the Fisher Price Movie Viewer was a transcendental toy… 1973 changed the culture, giving the control of animation and cinema to young minds. I know many artists and filmmakers who were inspired by that childhood magic; f'ing-brilliant!

…I might have chewed some Tinker Toys too!

I had, or played with a lot of stuff in that catalog. Some epic stuff depicted there for sure!

how badly did i want that "snoopy pound-a-ball" game. i have no idea why, i don't remember anyone having one. but i had to have it. i remember not getting it until after christmas because santa couldn't find one.

Its strange that i can vividly remember finding that toy, at Tractor Supply Company. i was so little, but i know exactly where we were. and i love playing with it

finally got a replacement one last year and it doesn't not hold up as a "fun toy"
