    Describe your fav Hoagie ....

In my area (Philadelphia metro) they are called Hoagies …

In your area they might be called subs, torpedo's, heroes, grinders etc.

For me, I must have oven roasted turkey breast --(lunchmeat), a few German balonie slices, 2 slices of Swiss, tomato, a HEAVY sprinkling of vinegar, a load of Hellmann's and some salt and black pepper.

What is your fav Hoagie ?

Lots of veggies and cheese, maybe with mayo.

The large Italian Combo from the Eagle Rock Italian Bakery: Ham, Salami, Capocollo, Mortadella, Provolone, Lettuce, Tomatoes, Mustard on their freshly baked bread, and I have them add $2.00 of Prosciutto Crudo. A life changing sammich, indeed. Here's a pic that a local Foodie posted (minus my secret Prosciutto Crudo):

I consider myself somewhat of a sandwich connoisseur. These are my faves:

        Bernie's Sandwich Shop - Italian
You have to wait for Bernie's because they bake it in the oven... but oh my goodness, your patience is rewarded. The warm bread, the hot peppers, quality meats... this is a definitive Italian sub.

        bernies.jpg

        Naked Onion - Banh Mi
The Naked Onion closed its doors due to covid. I have been seriously missing this sandwich. Pork belly, pickled carrots and daikon, slices of fresh jalapeno, all on a fresh, crusty baguette with a smear of garlicky aioli. This sandwich may be the food I'd pick for my Last Meal. It is that good.

        nakedonion.jpg

        Bearss Sandwich Shop - Cuban
This is a slightly non-traditional Cuban... more like an upscale version of a cheap Cuban sandwich (if that makes any sense)... but in opinion, this was the best Cuban in Tampa. I'm not sure if Jerry and Berta are still running the place, but they are real firecrackers. Their banter with the customers and each other is almost like a standup comedy show.

        Baldinos Subs - Italian
While driving down I-95, I stopped for lunch in Pooler, GA at this little hole in the wall sub shop attached to a gas station. But don't let the ambiance fool you... the subs are amazing. For the past 20 years, I have planned a stop there every time I am do that car trip.

My favorite is a similar sandwich (called Grinders there) at a nearby place named Mancino's.

"House Specialty! Ham, Sausage, Salami, Mushrooms, Onions, Green Peppers, Cheese, Lettuce, Tomatoes & Mayo"

I get it every time, and each time I forget how damn good it is. I underestimate it's goodness.

If I'm making my own: Soft roll, pastrami and salami, swiss, gouda, or havarti cheese, lettuce, tomato, salad olives, onions, mustard & mayo.

That's a combo I've never tried but sounds interesting

Bet it would be good on a turkey sub

Well there's a deli in St. Louis I try to frequent, but it's been well over a year.

                      https://www.gioiasdeli.com/

                      Their hot salami is amazing...

The Porknado sandwich is very good as is the Hogfather

All sliced and made to order in front of you and wrapped in white paper. Delish...

I like the Sharp Italian from Primo's.

Prosciutto, Hot Capacola, Natural Casing Genoa Salami, and Sharp Provolone on sesame seeded bread. Add lettuce, tomato, onion, oil & vinegar, and oregano.

Ah. The making me hungry thread.

1980's Italian Hoagie that were sold by Volunteer Firemen.

A more recent good one is a Turkey Sub, that I noticed they also put butter on the roll, so that is probably why it has enhanced flavor.
