Did they rip off the Poltergeist clown ?

I can't believe they released this movie in Italy under the false pretense it was an Evil Dead sequel

I'd like to know who gave them actors a screen test and liked their work enough to put them in the movie

BTW, I've never heard of this movie before --- weird it flew under my 80's horror radar all these years
