You must try to generate happiness within yourself. If you aren't happy in one place, chances are you won't be happy anyplace. -Ernie Banks -
To be honest, both men in their prime I can easily see Eastwood kicking Wayne's behind.
Wayne was big but REALLY slow.
Every Which/Any Which are great examples of Eastwood's moves.
Wayne wouldn't last more than 20 seconds (and that's being liberal)
Still, I still like John Wayne's movies betterComment

Speaking of getting older, I think they both got to be better actors as they aged. Shatner as well. But for Westerns only, I'd go with Wayne. For an entire body of work, I'd say Eastwood.Comment

I dunno, I saw him lose to an empty chair.
Anyway, kinda an impossible comparison here. Wayne's era was different, film was different. By the time Eastwood started making the spaghetti westerns, things were already much more realistic than the stuff Wayne was able to do. By the time Eastwood made Unforgiven (his best work) the genres weren't even the same, but the entire industry wasn't the same. So how do you compare that?
It's like saying, which is better the Model T or 78 Camero? Well, both were cars, but that's about it. Not really comparable.Comment

For all around decent guy I heard John Wayne was much easier to work with.
Heck the guy would have played The Waco Kid (Blazing Saddles) if his manager hadn't talked him out of it because it would "degrade Wayne's legacy"
Imagine if Wayne did do Blazing Saddles --- He'd be even more of an icon today

Did you know that John Wayne was not that interested in acting, he worked as a prop guy in the summers, while he was going to save for pharmacy school. One day on the set, an elderly gentleman spoke to him and told him he definitely had the good looks and was tall, lanky but strong and that he should stick it out, and thought he would be a successful actor.
The elderly gentleman was Wyatt Earp, true story, it happened around 1926-27. Hollywood was making a silent western and Wyatt Earp was on the set just visiting, actually John Wayne was still going by his original name, Marion Morrison.Comment
