I like both New England and Manhattan styles.

I often buy Progresso and doctor it up with canned clams and a bit of cream. Chunky is too pasty for me. I've made it from scratch but I'm lazy...

No, but loved/hated the minigame in the 3 Stooges NES game where you're trying to outwit the clam chowder.

I like them both equally. Found a good recipe for New England that I add whole clams and fresh clams in the shell. Delicious and makes for a great presentation.

Are you talking lobster bisque ?

There's something about the seasoning in generic lobster bisque that I don't care for …

Maybe too much pepper ? --- I dunno

Every lobster bisque I've ever tried had a weird aftertaste

Could it be the Sherry that's giving you an aftertaste?

I do love my local Ma-and-Pa's Italian Restaurant's stuffed clams with wine sauce … Is that a similar taste ?

I used to love the Pathmark brand of chunky chowder, but it's been discontinued for years. Red Lobster and Outback restaurants both have excellent chowder.
Hanover foods made excellent chowder but like Pathmark, it's discontinued.
