DJ and I wandered out to a local toy mall in our area that sells quite a bit of second hand toys, but also plenty of new items as well. One dealer in particular carries all the new Megos which, on this particular day, had us bug-eyed as he was putting out fresh stock.
First let me tip my hat to the sculptors Andy and Sean, plus the great work Rachel did on the outfits, as well as Jason on the packaging. They jump out from the pack. First up is Ultraman. Here's a front and back shot of the packaging. Note Tsuburaya Productions proudly places their seal of approval on the bubble.
The head sculpt is a nice tribute to our beloved hero from the 60's which takes on one of my favorite head designs best known as Type C. The suit is well tailored with removable boots to service either the Popy homage with the boots on or stay faithful to the TV show with them removed. Ultraman himself is true gray under his threads. There may be a few tradeoffs on posability. On mine, because his suit is so form fitting, it puts too much stress on his seams to raise his arms above his head for a flying pose (and that's with the back Velcro open). But on DJ's he was able to achieve that without any problem, so that may be a variable on the figure depending on how tight your outfit comes. But as a kid who grew up watching him in the 60's and early 70's, this is still very much a treat by every measure that counts.
Dracula is also a special treat. If you like the photos of this figure, just wait until you're holding it in your hands. Here is the backer card front and back.
The figure is a cool design. The head sculpt really jumps out in person and you can't help but be impressed with the details, especially around his teeth.
The outfit is creative in it's approach. The collar and cape are not connected. The cape is its own piece while the collar is part of the jacket underneath. The white collared shirt has no sleeves to keep posability smooth and there's separate neckwear held in place by your standard elastic band.
Both keepers and instant classics in my book.
