Sad to see that Barbara Shelley, best known for Hammer films such as The Gorgon, Dracula: Prince of Darkness, Rasputin: The Mad Monk and others has passed.



She's particularly great in Prince of Darkness as the fussy, buttoned up, matriarchal wife, who goes all lusty and scandalous when vampirized.

Strangely enough, that's not Shelley made up as the Gorgon, it's actress Prudence Hyman. Shelley wanted to play both roles, and even use a wig with real garter snakes, but someone at Hammer didn't want to give away the "mystery" of who the Gorgon was...even though she was really the only likely candidate!

RIP. A lovely and talented actress, I've enjoyed her genre work. Very good in Village of the Damned opposite George Sanders, too.
