They wanted to switch off and play the Doctor after working on the 50th anniversary special together anyway.

Just read an article that says getting rid of Whittaker won't fix anything. The article say Chibnall is the bigger problem.

To be fair, was never a fan of Capaldi either.
I've tried hard many times to like him --- but like an abused spouse who tries to make up excuses why to like him …. i'm done.
Capaldi and Whittaker just suck
BTW, i'd be totally on board if they would have got ROGER Whittaker as Dr Who (totally love him)
