King of Kong getting sued for fraud

Forgive me but I find this whole thing endlessly fascinating, I'm not even a gamer but this whole sub culture and it's "villain" are hypnotic to me.

I love following this too - even though I haven't played a video game since NES

The South Park poo episode started me on it and then I seen King of Kong shortly after that.

Since then I still read any latest news

Billy Mitchel is pretty much everything you'd imagine he is. Both cartoonish and buffoonish, and yet, deep down, a genuinely awful person as well. It's sort of comical to watch him as a cartoon character, but we must remember this guy isn't Skeletor... He is a real person who would do vile things to real people. It's amazing he hasn't been completely ran out of the gaming community, but since he now brings a certain "celebrity" status with him, he continues to get attention.

Oh yeah. It’s a fascinating topic. I always say Billy Mitchell is one of the great villains in movie history, only he’s a real person.

Billy Mitchell is a perfect wrestling heel.

Since seeing King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters, I've wondered if Mitchell is as bad as he is portrayed. I don't know much about that world, but it was easy to believe a subculture would set up a self-sustaining power structure. It seems to always happen in "fringe" cultures. All cultures, really. Even toy collecting ones. I remember getting slightly hassled in Philly's punk scene because I never dressed the part (I dressed more like the guy who lost the final ski race to John Cusak then someone turning tricks for heroin on 53rd & 3rd).

I'm sure it's got some truth in it but who knows? The doc could be slanted and a lot of this is Mitchell's taking himself super serious combined with the "Streisand Effect" of trying to silence any parody or discussion of him.

The whole subculture angle is the part I found the most interesting, I run across those bristles any time I talk about a Japanese toy on the blog, hoo boy, do I get dressed down.
