Phantom of the Opera restoration project.

Finally finished a project long in the works...a complete restoration of my favorite childhood book cover.
The 1976 Scholastic edition of Phantom of the Opera. A pretty faithful retelling of the novel with a good deal of Lon Chaney, I must have read it dozens of times.
I own several copies and used the best condition one for the restoration which took about 20 hours total.
I removed every single crease, scratch, scuff, printing defect, and even the fading, restoring this beautiful piece of art to it's original glory.
I only wish I knew who the artist was, since they are not credited.
I have wondered if the artist cleverly hid their signature on the organ bench. We'll never know!

Nice labor of love project… looks fantastic!

So many great cover and editorial illustrators of the 20th C. (especially in pulp) weren't recognized properly. Scholastic, being a historic, literary institution may hold an archive you could consult with.

Hmm...that's a possibility. I'm working on restorations of all the movie monster books from Scholastic and others. I'd like to do the Movie Monster Book about Movie Monster Books! So, so many in the 70's -80's.
I'm currently doing Movie Monsters by Alan Ormsby, and Super Monsters by Daniel Cohen.
