The Museum gallery says that they came in black and blue. Nothing about brown. I recall the 3 or 4 that I had as a kid being black. However, I do recall different pictures on the cases.
From page 93 of World's Greatest Toys, which addresses both previous posts:
"Mego developed the “Super-Hero Carry Case” designed to hold four figures. The vinyl case has a cardboard insert folded to create four compartments. The plastic handled Carry Case allowed kids to transport their favorite Heroes to countless recesses. Available for several years, the exterior can be black, brown or blue vinyl. The interior is either white or red. The graphic on the front remained unchanged throughout production; attached with double-sided tape, the adhesive rots, leaving a brown stain. These cases are not scarce today, and command very little on the open market."
Hope this helps.

I have kind of been on the fence about purchasing one myself. I just was not sure how informative that it would be for my own personal taste. I am not real big into price guides. I would however like to find a book that lists all of the known variations with nice clear color pictures Perhaps this may be the book to own?

Ben's book is not a price guide. It basically gives a history of each figure and packaging. It's a fine book and worth having but much of the information contained in it can be found in the Museum galleries and other sources. The only negative I have to say about it is just WGSH. I would love to see a companion book(s) with POTA, Star Trek, etc.
Thanks for the info. Yeah, I would like to have a book with all of the lines that you mentioned as well. Perhaps this may spark a new idea for a new book in the future? For now I will just continue to stick with the Museum as you indicated. As well as the vast knowledge of others here that are always more than willing to help when and if they can.![]()
