    Vintage Evel Knievel helmet restoration

I've had this badly damaged Evel Knievel helmet for a long time. My brother and I each had an Evel figure. This helmet belonged to one of those figures. This helmet received multiple coats of Testors model paint during our "creative phase" as children. I chipped all the paint off maybe 20 years ago. The plastic was stained, nicked up badly, and had cracks in the chin guard and back. As useless as it appeared, I never got rid of it.

I was in the Knievel storage box last week getting out templates for the stunt cycle stickers (I decided I am going to make some repro sticker sets to sell on eBay). I pulled this helmet out, too. I fixed the breaks and began to sand it smooth. I primed and painted the helmet (Tamiya gray primer and racing white rattle cans). Yesterday I masked and added the stripes (Tamiya light blue metallic). Finished it off today with acrylics for the red stripes, black face area, and white stars. I made a template for the stars from yellow Tamiya masking tape. I will probably finish it off with a coat of clear once everything has cured.

I am really happy with how it turned out.

Nailed the Ideal 2nd Version Helmet. Very Nice.
You are transparent; I see many things... I see plans within plans.

Thank you. It was originally the second version helmet. I thought about making it a first version, ram-horn. But decided to go with how it was originally.
