I feel like a big chunk of my youth just died.

I was an obsessive Van Halen fan throughout my teenage years.

    This death hits me hard.

    Van Halen (1978)
    Van Halen II (1979)
    Women and Children First (1980)
    Fair Warning (1981)
    Diver Down (1982)
    1984 (1984)

    Rest in peace, Eddie.

Wow, I knew his health was bad for one reason or another, but this does indeed suck. What a talented guy, and a lot of good memories.

Will the band now be gone? I'm not sure it's right to go on without him.

Geezz, I was just reading about the tragic death of actor Thomas Jefferson Bryd getting shot in Atlanta, and now another musical legend passes.

… 2020, I'm running out of ways to respond without breaking several rules along the way.

I’m posting this link so you can read some of the tweets from fellow musicians and celebrities...

One of the most influential players of all time and a founder of Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductees Van Halen, the guitarist died after battling cancer off and on for 20 years.

Man, so sad, not shocking, because I followed his illness...but he was one of my favorites. While most in the 80s were into the typical new wave/pop music back in the day, I was so into Van Halen. Friggin kick arse band, man.

                      RIP, Eddie...

His guitar defined my high school years. Hate to hear it.

This one makes me feel older for some reason...

Very sad news. He was my absolute favorite guitarist ever. He was a true magician. His solos were never just token guitar riffs. He will be missed.

When I was "growing up" in the 80's, I "hated" Van Halen, it was only when I realized it wasn't the band, but the idiot fans who idolized them where the ones I hated!!!! HA!

Ed was always a great guy, in every interview I read about him he always came across as intelligent and funny. I always respected the stories of how his mom and dad came over to America and how his dad a musician (Clarinet) player would walk miles to work to wash dishes to feed his family. How Alex and Edward didn't speak any English and the fact that they were outcast made them bond even more so all the way to the present.

I think that Jan & Eugenia disciplined them enough that they appreciated EVERYTHING they did for them. Ed NEVER EVER LIKED BEING CALLED or REFERRED TO AS "EDDIE". It was either ED or EDWARD, read ANY interview/WATCH Any interview with Alex, Mikey or Dave and you will see then call him Ed or Edward most of the time.

You can thank his parents for that, as they never called him "Eddie". Very proper parents and very loving parents as Ed himself described them. He and Alex appreciated everything they did for them.

After years of silence and no news, I had hoped that there would have been another reunion with Dave and a tour, but alas it did not happen. And now it never will.

I feel for Wolfgang, he is way too young for this ****, and he does not need all this grief at so young an age.

I played in tribute ELEANOR RIGBY for Edward last night, I hope he, Jan & Eugenia are together in Heaven. I will miss him, things will never be the same again.

                              RIP Edward Lodewijk Van Halen.
