Why are News and Cooking sites so slow ?

Seems ALL news and cooking sites I go to takes forever to load.

I'm guessing it's all the adds loading.

I'm talking big name sites too

Do people really frequent them often and put up with the add waiting time ?

Seems like each of the sites would never get a return reader
