For me, it was any one of Mead's superhero school supplies- paper, portfolios, notebook- I would get whatever mom could afford. Plus it was a rare opportunity to get something with my beloved Avengers on it.

A new pair of shoes. We weren't raised with much money so we got one new pair of shoes a year and it was right before school. Always loved the feeling of a new pair of shoes.

I always felt like new shoes could make you jump higher and run faster.

Now I feel spoiled to have had two portfolios and some paper. I've clearly overcompensated these days.

For me, the lunchbox was paramount. After that, a new Trapper Keeper and deciding which themed folders to add to it. Also, I usually got a new satchel every year and picking that out was always fun.

Those spiral bound notebooks with celebrities on the cover. I had these two:

I remember the report cards printed out on one those dot matrix printers with green and white striped paper with perforated edges. You could use a pencil to change grades. I used to charge other kids to change their grades for them. F's to B's were the easiest.

Once school got started, I would always pick up one of these at the bookstore if I scrounged up a quarter.
