I had good luck with Smokey stinky boxes and sealing them in an airtigh bag with some borax powder. It took a while but it worked.

Good to know there's some options for deodorizing.
they also soften and some are scented

Try handwashing in a bowl with OXI clean. Been using it for years..

The best thing I have used is a Mexican soap called “ZOTE”
It is best if you use warm water and let the items sit in the water for 10 mins. Like clothes and boots and accessories. I have used an old toothbrush to softly rub on the figures and heads or soak them too. It has a nice mild scent and will remove smoke smell.

With Books you need to elevate the book in a container so there is an air-gap layer...create a Baking Soda Layer at the very bottom of the Container, elevate the book on a shelf or rack, and add some Fabric Softener Sheets & secure the lid...let rest for a few Days to over a week in a dry (Low Humidity) area away from sunlight.

This worked for me on some of My Wife's Old Children's Books that had a strong musty smell along with being kept in her Parents Smoked Home.

            Good Luck.

There’s a stack of children’s series books that I’ll use this on when I’m back in the apartment where the books are. I am so grateful for all these helpful responses!
