Vintage Mego: Star Trek the Motion Picture Bridge

This week Vintage Mego looks at the Star Trek: The Motion Picture Bridge Playset. Often maligned by collectors, sure it’s a little cheaply made but was it a fun toy? We offer our experiences with it. Mego Mania Facebook Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/megomania/ MegoMuseum Forums http://megomuseum.com/community/forum.php

I do think the stark white plastic hurts it. I don't think it would have look as cheap in gray and without the transporter and extra viewer screens of the 8 inch bridge it's kind of just a playset of chairs. It still wasn't a bad playset for its price.
You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

This playset was a focal point in my oldest brother’s bedroom as a kid; always on display. Not sure where it is now but I remember every inch of that cheap thing and love it.

Great subject for a video! That Star Trek playset doesn't get enough respect. I think a lot of people take their dislike of the movie out on the toys.

I got the Motion Picture Bridge (along with the bridge crew) for my birthday that year... and I loved how big it was! It had all of these elements-- the multiple stations, the railing, etc.-- that you didn't get in the 8" bridge playset. And the hatch spun the figures around... so you could still use it as the de facto transporter.

Mine survived for several years. Then one day I threw my toys in the closet to clean up my room and something crushed it... so I will grant you it was a bit flimsy, but I was rough on my toys. I had a lot of fun with it before that happened.

I've been looking for one of these in good condition for over 25 years. Great video.

Great video, and nice to see someone take up for this. I don't own it and have never touched one, but I'd buy it if I saw it. I've ALWAYS wanted that Batcave. I never saw it in stores, just in a TV commercial or a catalog, I think...

Thanks everybody for watching, somebody actually summed it up rather well on YouTube. An adult who didn't have this as a kid, sees it like an adult and yeah, it's pretty cheaply made, no doubt but if you had this as a kid, you see it with a kid's eyes and remember the fun you had with it. It's totally both things.

I would really love to see a video on the PSH Batcave. I've never seen or read much on it, beyond its profile page here at the museum.

Mine is incomplete and I always shy away from doing those videos.

Spotting Issac has become a "Where's Waldo" like Easter Egg in each of these videos. I love it!

We all need more Ted Lange in our lives.

Yeah, it's a running gag I intend to keep going with.
