Man of Steel: Faora-Ul vs Kal-El | Man of Steel scene

Just checked this out again after a few years...

    You know what?

This action is better than anything I’ve seen in any Marvel movie.

It’s so raw, brutal, fast, powerful. and realistically depicted (if super beings really existed). Why is Justice League action scenes so bad and Man of Steel action scenes so good?

I’m not talking about the overall Man of Steel movie, as I have issues with it of my own...but I’m talking strictly its pure action/fighting scenes.

    It’s really A-level stuff...

In comparison, take Thor Ragnarok climatic action scene for example...

Yes, it’s pretty boss, has awesome Zep music...but compare it to Man of Steel...it’s rather slow, ponderous...and feels so small...all taking place in one bridge. Nothing gigantic in scope about it, it just feels slow and small compared to Superman vs Faora...

None of the Asgardians would be able to catch up with the Kryptonians based on these two scenes...

That's why some of us thought Snyder would be a great choice. Even the endfight in JL against garbage Doomsday is incredibly better than the vast majority of fight scenes in Avengers. I can't think of anyone whose worked for Marvel that's had Snyder's eye for framing. Maybe Derrickson with Strange, but that was more a swipe of Inception on his part. Certainly not the Russo's, which is why the 2nd unit and vfx guys had so much input.

Andrea Tatu (faora) is vastly underrated. It's wild to think her and Gadot were the final choices Faora and WW and they cast Tatu as Faora only because Man of Steel was closer to production. If WW was further along, it would have been her as WW and Gadot in Man of Steel.

Batman Vs Superman is a total loud mess of a movie but that warehouse scene is one of the best Batman fight scenes i've ever seen. It tops anything in Nolan for me.

I really don't know what's wrong with me, but I've been able to watch the DC stuff again and focus on the good stuff and gloss over the bad.

          Except for Green Lantern.

I don't think there's anything wrong with you. I like Justice League warts and all but yeah, I've never been able to care for GL.

Man of Steel certainly captured the feel of super powered beings fighting unlike any film had before, and few have since. I think the final battle just turned into destruction porn, but the Smalllville battle was exciting.

That Batman fight in BvS was also really well done, and easier to follow than anything Nolan ever filmed. But then Batman ran over people in the Batmobile. For me, Snyder just goes right to that edge I like, then jumps right off of it.

I enjoy Justice League, despite it's half-baked, two chefs during a shift change nature.

Yeah totally agree that Batman wholesale murdering people with machine guns is a complete misunderstanding of the character.

Nothing Snyder does can ever match Justice League Dark: Apokolips. It's like Alan Moore in a really pessimistic mood.

I take that back. If he's watched JLDA he's going to want to top that with his redux.

Great post. Love your technical film analysis.

Antje Traue has the look for Wonder Woman, but think she would’ve been a tad short for the role at 5’ 7”, that would’ve been my only issue with her as WW. But she’s awesome...Faora was scary baddarze...loved her as Faora. Bring her back, dammit!!!!!

I think it is the best live action Batman fight scene ever...I can’t think of any other ones that comes close to it.
