Retro Commercial: 1974 Gillette Dry Look

This commercial popped up in my youtube search today so I thought you guys would get a kick out of it:

"C'mon, hero. Get rid of that wet look."

'The Dry Look' Hair Control commercial from Gillette featuring Dick Tracy, Clark Kent (Superman), and Shazam! (Captain Marvel). Spot aired in July 1975 (produced in 1974).

I must say today was the first time I have watched this commercial and I was shocked to see Dick Tracy, Clark Kent and Shazam in one commercial.

I've never understood this idea for a commercial--if you use the product, these characters don't retain their iconic look? It would make more sense if, say, Clark Kent had one look but then as Superman he had this dry look, so having this would help you be like the hero.

I'm just impressed that they used a cartoonish Shazam back in 1975 one year after the Shazam live action tv series was out.

I love the before and after guy at the end. His hair looks equally terrible wet or dry.

Wow, I thought I had seen every Super Hero-related commercial, but that was new on me.

Interestingly, a few years after this, Christopher Reeve's Clark Kent has "the dry look" in a few odd scenes in Superman The Movie, that don't match up with his "wet look" in the majority of the film!
