I have no problem with reporting the facts, it's the shock value I don't appreciate. I would like to have seen some interviews with people that have gotten the virus and gotten through it just fine. I'm hoping that is what Hanks and his Wife will do, to calm some of this insane behavior. People shouldn't be getting into shoving matches at Costco trying to buy 3 months worth of toilet paper.

I am a little weirded out by the TP thing, myself. The nearest I can figure is that people get a feeling that they are exercising some control where there is uncertainty. TP isn't going to go bad and you will use it....all...eventually. And then "shortage psychology" comes in to play for those that follow.

And lest one should blame social media or even the 24 hour news cycle of cable TV consider this.......

People panic and they hoard. It's in our nature to want to feel some control in the face of chaos. I may not agree, but I understand it.

I think some compassion and empathy are in real need. Americans were at each other's throats before the virus arrived. Anxiety and depression are very real, and are significant players in this game.

Panic is pointless. It resolves nothing. We all have the same feelings, but you are what you do. I still go to work and behave rationally while others do not. It is disappointing. I guess I have seen enough apocalyptic movies to expect it, but still. Someone at work told me it is not the virus that scares them, it is the way people are behaving. As in every zombie apocalypse movie, the real enemy is the other remaining humans.
Meanwhile, I figure I have a pretty fair chance of getting sick and getting over it. It is my folks who I worry about. They are older and have various health issues.
The idea of quarantine is not scary. Staying home with my comics and movies. Don't threaten me with a good time!

Considering how few people have actually done this, it's probably hard to find them. Only about half the people who have officially contracted Covid-19 and have gotten symptoms have been cleared as "recovered". Lots of people who have it, may not die, but will likely never be the same again or are currently on ventilators. This isn't the flu.

I guess I don't get the logic of this, because it's a lot like the attitude some have like "Well, I never wore seat belts in childhood and I grew up just fine." People that died because they didn't wear seat belts aren't here to speak up; people that died from COVID-19 aren't, either.

I'd do agree there isn't really enough coverage of what exactly happens to someone when they get the coronavirus. I'm sure for some it will be like the flu, but the flu really sucks and is one of the most deadly communicable diseases in the civilized world. The death rate for COVID-19 is much, much worse.

where do you get that info? Clearly people are recovering from it or the death toll would be in the tens of thousands already. it is the elderly and people with pre-existing conditions that are not recovering and dying. all accounts I have otherwise heard, is that it is no worse than a cold or mild case of the flu

It's worse for older people, but younger people are getting it and ending up in the hospital. Doctors have died. Read some of the experiences in Italy.
