everywhere. schools started shutting down here in NY now, the national guard has cordoned off the heaviest hit part of New Rochelle. the governor has ordered no gatherings more than 500, which I expect will soon be lowered. stay safe everyone

Wonder if the county will make the local non-Indian casino shut down ?

internet is going to get slow in days ahead, I think. I know many of the classes I work with are moving to Google chat and much of that with video. I am wondering how big of a surge of web usage and bandwidth will come in the next several weeks.

            For real though...
The college I work for announced moving all classes to online starting this coming Monday through the remainder of the semester, and the state of Michigan just announced closing all K-12 schools in the state from March 16-April 6.

I don't buy the hysteria , but that doesn't mean all don't and unfortunately how people react to this mess is bigger than the actual virus.

From a toy collecting perspective now would be a good time to sell online since people are staying home.

I agree. The way the media is covering this is borderline criminal.

the media is definitely creating panic and hysteria. they need to shut the hell up.

they just declared state of emergency in my county. schools will all be closed and public gatherings are all cancelled

A coworker almost took a beatdown yesterday at a Smart & Final when 2 other ladies felt she took their can of Lysol.

A lot of the college stuff is due to the dependency on foreign exchange student tuition. It's pretty messy, but they've been a cash cow for colleges and universities for several years now. The problem is about 30% of the students shouldn't have qualified for overseas education but they got through for a myriad of reasons. They don't want to leave because they may not get back in. So if the schools says "come on back..." they have to do that for everyone, which becomes a huge risk factor.

If things go well...first 30 days to get a hold on this. Next 30 days to clean it up. Last 30 days to return to somewhat normalcy.

In order to control a pandemic, you need to take proactive steps to prevent its spread. If you take early measures and it works, everyone says, "they totally overreacted... all that panic and then it was nothing." If you delay and things get bad, everyone will crucify you for not acting earlier. Since you literally can't win either way, better to do the one that doesn't involve a lot of people getting sick and dying.

THIS. Play some board games, watch some movies, be kind to one another.

I'm not worried about this disease but I am worried about it killing my mum who has a pre-existing condition. If I miss a toy show or a movie, so be it.

My industry (A&E) has practically shut down already… I'll be coming to work as long as they let me, but a few-week-respite in my studio filled with half-finished work, unread books, and bunch of toys sounds extremely good to me.

My wife and I are trying to keep a close eye on our parents (with existing issues), but being scattered across the country places you in a helpless position. The 24/7 media coverage instills anxiety and worry in many, which can have profound effect on those with pre-existing conditions. Some places (notable cities, counties, and states) acted as fast as they could; I'll take that response over the other prominent lack-of-response any day.

Both of my grandparents on my father's side died in the 1918 Spanish Flu influenza pandemic.

They were burred in a still unmarked mass graves with many other people.

This was no poor little European country, this was New Jersey.

I have little faith in the Gov - except efficiently burring people in bulk
