    Italy in lockdown!

    I can't believe it...

Italian Government just decreed a semi state of Siege for ALL NATION!!!
The entire poulation, some 60 million people, is ordered to stay at home!

We cannot circulate out of our district and it is allowed only to travel home-work and viceversa.
Cinemas, theatres, sport centers, schools will all be closed at least until the 3rd of April.
Shops must remain closed in the weekends, and bar and restaurants must close down at 18:00.
People are not allowed to stay in group even in parks....
Police can question you anytime if you are caught out of your property and ask you why you you are not at home.

My family and me are safe at the moment...it seems that in my town only 8 out 40.000 are being hospitalized for the Coronavirus disease.
In 80% of the cases the symptoms are very light, but for 65+ sometimes it can be deadly in few days due to pneumonia.

1 week ago I was thinking... "it's just a bad flu"... but the real problem is that it is very contagious and if millions get it at once, hospitals will not be able to threat everybody.

It's like being in a movie...riots in prisons, empty shelves in supermarkets...people in the streets with protective masks

The shutdown is creeping though the Bay Area and the Sacramento Valley too… entire school districts closing and the shelves are starting to empty. The fragility of the perceived strength of an economy, exposed and tested. Interesting times…

            Stay strong Italy!

I'm glad to hear you and your family are OK. And, yes, you are correct- it is a bad flu that is very, very contagious. Officials in NY are setting up a containment zone in West Chester County. I think this is the beginning of similar restrictions here in the U.S.

Stay well, Frederico. Hopefully this will pass soon.

I am afraid that sooner or later all European countries and USA will have to adopt these draconian systems.

Goverment is now thinking whether to close down everything except Food Shops and Supermarkets for 15 days nationwide and force people not to leave home.

I don't like it, but I am ready to do whatever it takes.

I don't worry about myself... I worry about my mom and dad. So many people take the attitude "Oh, I'll be fine", but that is pretty selfish and near sighted. We also don't know enough about this to tell if after you recover you now have a pre-existing condition. I want to protect the people who fall in that high risk category, many of which are people that are dear to me.

Take care, Federico, and all of Italy. Our thoughts are with you.

Governor Cuomo sent in the National Guard to New Rochelle in Westchester County. I understand they have a square mile cordoned off. the state colleges announced they are closing and all classes will be on line for the rest of the semester. So yes, it seems NY at least is moving toward full containment

Probably we are 1-2 weeks ahead of anybody else...
Another decree from the government tonight: all shops and commercial activities must remain closed down in the entire Nation.
Only Supermarkets and pharmacies are allowed to stay open.
Factories can continue to work only for essential productions...

Let's see what happens... we must stay calm and everything will be ok!

I hope you have good internet service Frederico! And catch up on your reading!

The States are entering pocket closedowns. If the NCAA tournament is shelved, we will enter a truly historical moment time of almost no live sports.

                            Federico,
Glad you and your family are safe! Looks like it's happening here here but a few weeks behind. Hopefully we can get this under control. We forget how precious life is, hopefully we can use this time well.
                            God Bless,
                            Ed

The NHL has announced suspension of the season as well. I assume MLB will be following as well.

                              Stay safe there!
