Things That Went Over Kid Me's Head (but are obvious now)

Gimme a break, I was what 4 & 1/2 feet tall? It was easier for things to go over my head back then.

I recently watched the Thundarr episode 'Harvest of Doom' recently. First time in almost 40 years. In it, Ariel slaps a red flower from Ookla's hand, warning the group that it is a "death flower," whose pollen has the "power to numb human will"!! An evil wizard oversees the harvesting of fields of these red poppies... I mean, death flowers. As a kid, I clearly did not get the opium references that seem hammer-over-the-head obvious today. It just shows how quickly we grow up though- this naivete was only about a year or two away from my first experimentation numbing my own human will.

I'm sure there was a ton of stuff in those early Bugs cartoons that I missed.

What a great idea for a thread.

I’m sure every movie I saw as a kid had innuendo that went over my head. I recently rewatched the 1976 King Kong and was surprised at the couple of references that Jessica Lange’s character might have been lured to film porn on that other boat that sank. Surely didn’t catch that as a kid.

Rewatching Avengers TV show, didn’t pick up on the subtle hints that Steed and Peel were flirting... the age difference I think kept me from thinking of them that way.

There was a lot of innuendo in '66 Batman of course, but one that stands out is a scene with Batgirl getting made into a 2-D cardboard stand up, and she says "I feel like I'm getting flat!" and one of the villains says "What a pity." I rediscovered the show at about 13 and it was a whole new experience.

As a kid, I never really paid much attention to Batgirl’s or Catwoman’s outfits, a little later on...believe me when I say
I was very much paying attention.
