    The Future of Clothing

At least the future of the past.

On the only vacation we ever took in my childhood, we drove a Winnebago to Disney World. As if the trip wasn't cool enough in itself, I got one of these bucket hats with a colored visor built in. This was the height of clothing technology. I really thought I was wearing the future!

I had one of those same type visor bucket hats from Six Flags Over Texas circa 1973.

I remember we had a couple of those kind of hats when I was a kid (one red visor and one blue)... but can't remember where we got them!

There's a dinner table scene in Close Encounters where Richard Dreyfuss' daughter is wearing one with two circular goggle eye holes.

Wow, I missed out on the future! I've never seen hats like these. I had my fair share of bucket hats (I blame JJ from Good Times), but if I wanted a visor, I had to get the old "bookie" style ones with the elastic bands. Which I did. I recall having a Batman one with an amber visor, bought at our local Dollar General store.

I guess this was the summer version of the ski mask hat I wore during the winters of the 1970's.

^I had a red and black one that looked enough like Spider-Man I nearly sweated to death in the summer running around outside in it.

I remember having something like that when I was young.
For some reason, I think the visor was clear though.

Somehow I'm reminded of Fat Albert's friend Dumb Donald.
