FX's new version of "A Christmas Carol" Oh. My. God.

I love practically every version of this timeless classic ever made, but this...NO. NO. NO.

    ****SPOILERS****

Guy Pearce was the worst Scrooge ever, and that's the best thing one can say about this unholy train wreck.

The opening scene is literally a guy urinating on Jacob Marley's grave. Yep.
Then we get to see said urine somehow trickle though six feet of frozen ground and a sealed coffin into Jacob Marley's mouth. Yep.
Minutes in, the first F-bomb drops, directed at a group of caroling children. Yep. Multiple F-bombs throughout.
Scrooge is sexually molested by his schoolteacher as a boy.
They just skip that whole Fezziwig part.
They decided to make the Cratchits a bi-racial couple, cause you know, diversity.
Mrs. Cratchit strips in front of Scrooge for money to pay for a life-saving operation for Tiny Tim. Yep. No joke.
    All three ghosts are horrendous.
Ghost of Christmas past is an F-bomb dropping homeless guy played by Andy Serkis.
Ghost of Christmas present is Scrooge's hot sister.
Ghost of Christmas future is Death from Bill & Ted.
Then we're treated to the same guy once again urinating...this time on Scrooge's grave.

I am NOT kidding. All of this ACTUALLY HAPPENS.

Oh, and it's over three hours long.

This should never be shown again. EVER. Anywhere.

Charles Dickens must surely be rolling in his grave.

You'd be rolling too with all that pee in there.

LOL...I can honestly say when I started watching it I had no idea I'd eventually be looking at Mrs. Cratchits bare assets.

Oh, and they twist the head off a pet mouse too.

When I saw the ad for this, I thought "wow, I haven't seen Guy Pierce in anything for a while..." Based on your review, I guess I still won't.

I almost turned it off about three or four times, but it was like a horrible train wreck you couldn't look away from.
When it was over my wife and I just looked at each other like "What the hell did we just watch?" LOL

OK, now I kind of want to see this for myself.

I have no problems Vinette Robinson as Mrs. Cratchit. The rest sounds horrendous.
You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

She was really good in Doctor Who and I also don't mind her casting but I think this whole thing does sound ghastly, can't wait to see for myself.

Tubi TV has the Henry Winkler version that I've been hunting for years. I'm halfway through it, think I'll be good with my pee-free version. Thanks for the warning Dwayne.

I googled after this thread and it does sound miserable. But in a way more realistic.

I think we all tend to have this romanticized view of Victorian England when in reality it was an veritable hell scape for the poor and working class. As gross as it sounds I can see someone of that era relieving themselves on a cruel man's grave as well as the language and other horrors. Life for most was absolutely miserable and the greedy and cruel rarely if ever reformed or were punished.

But I still think the big thing the remake over looks is A Christmas Carol is fantasy. People want/need that feel good romanticized fantasy of redemption.

I've always thought A Christmas Carol's intent has been taken wrong for over 100 years

It was very Orwellian with it's conformist zombification mind control themes

Basically, be happy or you will be tortured forever

I didn't see this remake yet but it sounds interesting

I never got that message at all. It's not about being happy, but rather showing kindness, compassion, and generosity towards others.
It's not that Scrooge is miserable, it's that he cares nothing for his fellow man.

I would argue that Scrooge is miserable, precisely because he doesn't care for his fellow man.

He's reminded of a time when he did care for others and how that brought him true joy. Whereas now he THINKS he's happy with his wealth and greed, but it's not true fulfillment.
