Toy-Ventures- Evil Cowboys by Zodiac Toys

This week we talk about one of my "white whales" in knock-off monster toy collecting, the elusive and vexing "Evil Cowboys" action figures made by Zodiac Toys in the late 1970s. I wish I knew more about these but here is everything i have on the subject.

Those are incredibly cool, but I swear I never saw them as a kid. I would have been all over them if I had.

These would seriously predate that character but there were 80s variations on the theme called "Nightmare warriors".

Oh this is awesome--I've always been a Weird West fan, and it's great to learn about new things up here.

Wanted: Legends of the West (Empire & Excel) and other western historically-based figures. Send me an offer.
Also interested in figures based on literary characters.

I recall seeing those "Nightmare Warriors" in Tomart's Action Figure Guide book, but the Mego-like ones are new to me! So weird. There's something kind of unsettling about their all black bodies and stark white skull heads. Creepy and kitschy at the same time! Fun stuff!

Cool. I think one reason I like these is their heads remind me of Mad Monster Party.

I recall the Nightmare Warriors. Do the Evil Cowboys only have 5-point articulation?
WANTED: Dick Grayson SI trousers; gray AJ Mustang horse; vintage RC Batman (Bruce Wayne) head; minty Wolfman tights; mint Black Knight sword; minty Launcelot boots; Lion Rock (pale) Dracula & Mummy heads; Lion Rock Franky squared boots; Wayne Foundation blue furniture; Flash Gordon/Ming (10") unbroken holsters; CHiPs gloved arms; POTA T2 tan body; CTVT/vintage Friar Tuck robes, BBP TZ Burgess Meredith glasses.

Brian, Thanks for time info. I'm having trouble with exact time frame. I know I put them back on the shelf(agony) to pick out a paint set either acrylics or Oil in 80s. This store had grocery, pharmacy and a few isles of other things like books, garden, toys, crafts ect. They stocked Odd toy lines like Killer Tomatoes, Barnyard Commandos, and 5in Ko monster line all were sold there.
