The Mandrake chain. Nakano, Shiboya, and Akihabara locations.

    Golden Age (akihabara)

Gojira-ya, Starcase and Toycats. (koenji and Kichijoji)

    Psycho Monsterz (nakano)

    Third Uncle (Koiwa)

you can also search for the "Toy Shooping in Tokyo" threads where Cjefferys and I go into more detail.

I think Ed covered most of it. If you can only hit a few places, for the most bang for your buck, I'd recommend the Broadway Mall in Nakano (many toy stores under one roof) and Akihabara (lots of stores on the main strip, and a big Mandarake one block over). Also, IMO the Mandarake in Shibuya is their best location. I've only been to Kyoto once but never had a chance to look around for toy stores there, so I'm afraid I don't have any info there, but that city is great for sightseeing.

Is Forest Gangu still around? That was a hot spot back in the day. Not sure if it's near Tokyo or Kyoto. Back in 2001 or 2002, my Wife had a coworker that took business trips to Japan. I gave him the address to Forest Gangu, a price range, and said bring back some diecast from that magical store. He returned with a loose, complete Popy Daitetsujin 17.

Cool, let us know how you make out.

For reference, most of the places mentioned are accessible from the Yamanote train line that circles greater Tokyo, either as a stop on the line itself (e.g. Shibuya and Akihabara) or a short additional train ride from a stop on the Yamanote line (i.e. to get to Nakano Broadway, get off at Shinjuku and another line will take you to Nakano at the third stop).

                ^The Sobu Local.

To expand on what cjeffreys said, you really only need to worry about the Yamanote (circular) line, and the Sobu Local (East-West) to get around most of the main downtown areas. For more remote locations (such as Big Sight) you merely need to know your connecting stop.

I'll be taking tons of pics in Feb. and posting my finds. I hope you have a fun time, and look forward to seeing what you discover!

There are TONS of youtube vids about getting around town, places to see, navigating the airport and train system. Do your homework before you go, and it'll make the trip easier.

I only made it to Nakano Broadway for an hour or two,
but got a few nice pics while there.

Remove the last two "00" in the price for a rough US $ estimate.
