    Outfit Dyeing Query...

    Hi Mego Makers and Shakers,

I was wondering if anybody knows if the FTC Steve Trevor uniform is made of a natural or a synthetic fabric/OR if it can be dyed another color (after being bleached, maybe)? I've tried with the Mego "I Dream of Jeannie" Major Nelson uniform, but I couldn't bleach or dye it. I was hoping to have perhaps, better luck with Trevor's uniform.

I appreciate any assistance my Mego mates can provide, thank you...

    Dana

I betcha it's cotton broadcloth, and should take dye.

SO Mego Major Nelson outfit wouldn't bleach? Did you damage the suit? Have you tried Rit color remover?

I haven't...and no, the suit isn't damaged (as far as I can tell).

If bleach didn't affect it, then it's probably a synthetic. Something to consider, though. Even if it did bleach, redying can be weird over fabric that's been bleached. Bleaching also weakens the fabric...

Also, brand new fabrics are slightly starched so thry are nice and crisp. That ( called sizing!) can interfere with the fabric absorbing dye evenly or correctly. Usually washing a fabric first ( in something like Dawn, and well rinsed) washes out the sizing and allows for better dye absorbtion.

Good points and advice. I've had fabric fall apart due to excessive bleach, now I rarely use it.
