I can understand Hasbro's reasoning for making them this small. Imagine how big they'd have to make this and the other animals in order for it to be in scale.
Man, was that Abominable set a disappointment. My parents didn't realize from the pic that the bumbles would be so pathetically small. I wasn't too crushed in the long run, but the abominable they released in the 90's is more what I had hoped for.
Yeah Hasbro usually went pretty cheep with the animals. The pygmy gorilla, white tiger and Abominable Snowman seemed pretty underwhelming compared to the 12 inch GI Joe. Oh and the Intruders from the end of the line, 6 inches of fighting fury those were.
Bigfoot was in the zeitgeist of 70's culture and you saw it in the toys.
Gi Joe Abominable Snowman
Tomland Yeti
Six million dollar man Bionic Bigfoot.
Chewbacca himself was no doubt inspired because Lucas was from Northern California a big hot spot for Bigfoot sightings.
The other thing about this set is the suit...I would much rather preferred reusing the ski patrol outfit over that paper thin snow suit...but it's still a grail of mine to find MIB...the box artwork is awesome
Oh no doubt the artwork is the best part of the piece. I am a little surprised nobody is making posters of the Joe and Mego painted artwork. Imagine those Mad Monster portraits as 2 ft by 3 ft posters with some GITD frosting...
