Phaser one - does (or will) Mego make one?

Upon rewatching the series now, I noticed they use the Phaser one as often as the Phaser 2.

But Mego in teh 70's only had "2", and as far as I know new Mego has only made Phaser 2s.

Will we see the smaller phaser 1? Is it already out and I missed it?

Since the communicator doesn't open, just pretend like it's a phaser. They should make a communicator that opens.

I used the Communicator as a Type 1 Phaser when I was a kid.

Yes, the type one phaser is just basically a rectangle like the communicator. But then they have 2 identical items. A lot more red shirts would have died by accident if Kirk was whipping out what he thought was a communicator.

I always thought Phaser 1 seemed super dangerous with the trigger and dials right on the top.

Like people nowadays that "butt-dial" their phones, I wonder how many people were killed by butt-phasering ?

I can see how butt phasering could be problematic.

That's why you keep it set on 'stun'.

Trigger is on the bottom - even worse for butt phasering.

Not according to Matt Jeffries, who designed them. Check out the design sketches by Jeffries in the hero phaser section:

He located the trigger for the phaser 1 on the bottom - admittedly an awkward design feature. You can see the button on this page if you scroll down - pictures of one of the last hero props still in existence:

Presented below are some seldom seen photographs of the only known surviving “hero” or working phaser prop in existence that was used for ma...

I guess once Matt passed it off to Starfleet, they made some changes. Trigger on the bottom must not have worked out well...
