The Starchild - Dare I say "Version II"?

I placed another big order to

1) get back stuff I accidentally sold off at MegoMeet from my personal collection haha
2) start building an inventory

With Ace and Peter coming out, I bought more Paul and Gene figures.
While examining, I instantly noticed Paul has a new paint job on his face.

Great improvement and will blend in much better with the better looks of Peter and Ace.

well, I clearly see two different paint jobs, but Dr Mego confirmed on Ambassadors Facebook page it is not.

He says,

"There was no "update". All the Starchilds were made at the same time in the same factory. Some were done better than others."

Some were done better than others - better? The left eye brow clearly has a cleft/point on it that the other one does not have. Now I am curious how it's applied...we have seen some video footage of the machines doing it..how can it vary this much, and I have five figures in my possession that are identical.

Yeah, I don’t like this sculpt, either. It may not be true, but I feel like the Paul sculpt was done based on what he looks like, now, in make-up. Peter and Ace look like their sculpts are based on them from the 70s, which is what you’d want or hope for.

Paul’s sculpt was based a lot on the Dynsaty cover. I wouldn’t dream of sculpting his current look for a 70’s era figure, but it’s hard to tell anything with the way the paint ended up coming out of the factory.

Sorry Andy, I know the real Paul is hiding under that paint somewhere.

I don't get all the comments I have seen since Day #1 about the head sculpt.
Paul's shtick is the pouty mouth like he's moving in to give ya a big ole kiss.
I think the sculpt is spot on - it's the paint that muddies it, but it's Mego. It's supposed to be cheesy. Some of these new figures go against that grain a little bit and starts getting into NECA territory.

Good observation IMO about NECA.
