I just read another article on Betty White and her castmates from that classic show. It truly is amazing how much those women hated each other. The acting was so good! I guess that is why they call it acting!?!? The blood was so bad, none of them even attended the other funerals of their co-stars. I know Betty White has tried to down-play the hatred as the years have gone on. However, even she admitted, that Bea Arthur couldn't stand her in real life.

At times, when I catch it in a repeat, I just have to laugh at how well they handled their emotions (of course, they were paid very handsomely).

Interestingly enough, "Golden Girls" is only 1 of 3 shows in TV history where all the main characters won an Emmy Award. The other 2 shows were "All in the Family" and "Will and Grace."

I thought most of the enmity was directed at Arthur, who was reportedly acerbic and aloof. I'm sure it was exacerbated when she left the show and it was retooled.

IIRC correctly, White and McLanahan were friends who collaborated on animal charities.
