    70's Novelty Songs

Do you remember the novelty songs that actually charted in the 70's. I had a vague flashback the other day of a faux reporter interviewing people on beach in a Jaws parody. A short google search later led me to a song that reached #4 in 1975, "Mr Jaws" by Dickie Goodman

Another I remember in this sampling style was John & Ernest's "Superfly Meets Shaft"

We even had a local hit in Philly by Broad Street Bully Dave Schultz

Do you remember hearing any of these outside of the Dr Dememto show?

I remember my friend had one of those K-Tel compilations at his cottage and we played it on rainy days. It had Guitarzan and Snoopy Vs the Red Baron on it and I just missed it by a second at a record sale last month.

As kids we had Mr. Jaws as a 45 for some odd reason.

My mum's radio station (CKFM!) would dust off the "Monster Mash" every Halloween but that was about it.

I'm not sure, but I really love Dr.Demento! I started listening in 1976, and have tons of shows recorded.

Same here. Got into the show in the 80's. Great memories.

Dr. Demento aired on Sunday nights when I was 12 or 13, followed by "the sunday funnies" and "Theatre of the mind", programs i didn't miss because i was the perfect age. I think it was replaced by "Sex with Sue" when I turned 14 or maybe I just had more interest in that subject matter.

^^ Same for me. Sunday nights. I think it was on KLOS in Los Angeles. Great way to end the weekend and start the week for school.
