Hammer House of Horrors TV series

Been watching the Hammer House of Horrors TV series (free on Tubi) for a few days now.

I'm up to episode 4 and must say this has got to be the absolute WORST horror anthology series EVER !!!

How could such a crappy show wear such an honored respectable name ?

The episodes are tediously boring, hard or impossible to follow and their conclusions are less than satisfying... As a matter of fact a few endings left me mad at myself for watching the story to the end.

Does it get any better ?

Are there any gems I need to catch ?

Or should I throw in the towel now ?

The werewolf story and the episode with Peter Cushing and Bryan Cox are good, at least!

I watched it years ago. While it isn't the best, there are episodes that have a way of getting under your skin in a subtle way. I'd give it a chance. It doesn't feel like Gothic Hammer, despite the title, but it does have some eerie and disturbing themes.

I bought the DVD set quite a few years ago expecting to be entertained and I stopped after a few episodes as well.

My favorite episodes are "the House that Bled to Death" which is a rip-off of The Amityville Horror (with a satisfying twist). There is an effective wild scene that takes place during a children's birthday party that I've never forgotten. I also like Visitor from the Grave, but only because it stars Kathryn Leigh Scott from "Dark Shadows." But, yeah, the rest are hard for me to sit through. I remember renting these in the 1980s when Elvira hosted them on home video.

Episode 1 has nudity in the opening scene - how could you not be entertained?!

It's very hit and miss. There are some goodies worth sticking around for, such as the Silent Scream and the Two Faces of Evil. It sounds like you may have watched up to Growing Pains, which may be the worst episode of the lot. I couldn't finish that one.

Its not the best and not the worst but I do enjoy it every once in awhile.
