    Ground Venison question

My nephew was making room in his freezer chest and gave me some frozen ground venison.

Was shot by his father in law

Looks like it was ground and sealed by a professional.

Question -- he have me multiple packages with different year dates … 2016, 2017, 2018

I know the 18's should be ok but what about 16's and 17's ?

I keep thinking of those scientists a few years ago that ate a 100,000 year old frozen mastodon and didn't get sick

I had two year old frozen porterhouse steaks in my freezer. Decided to thaw one and grill it.

Sad to report, it tasted weird.

    I threw out the rest.

foodsafty.gov and the USDA site says uncooked meats can last about a year in the freezer, but I saw some sites that claimed that vacuum sealed chicken, beef or pork could last up to 3 years. Personally, I guess if I had to flip that coin I'd probably ditch the really old stuff rather than take a chance.

I'm pretty sure that thing about scientists eating a mastodon or mammoth or whatever was a hoax.

      Good luck(?)

Don’t chance it, Mikey. Stick with the 2018 meat to be safe.

            Thanks gents,

I swung out everything before '18

            Now, it's meatloaf time
